Go Insurance For Travel In Australia
Travel Insurance for a domestic trip within Australia may not be top of mind when planning your trip. However there are a few reasons not to overlook insuring your domestic trip. The first and probably the most important is to insure your trip against cancellation. Particularly if the cost of your trip is non refundable or if the total cost of your trip is an amount that you could not afford to lose if you had to cancel your trip. Trips within Australia can actually end up costing you more than an international trip especially if you are staying at a luxury resort or involves a train journey such as The Ghan or The Indian Pacific.
Vehicle Hire Excess Insurance Is Included
If your trip involves hiring a car then a Travel Insurance policy for travel within Australia may be a viable option. This is because the travel insurance policy includes Vehicle Hire Excess Insurance. What this means is that if you have purchased a Go Plus, Go Elite or Go Ultra policy when the hire car company asks you whether you want to pay for example $ 35 a day to reduce your excess you can say ‘ No I have vehicle hire excess cover as part of my travel insurance policy’. Depending on the duration of the car hire this may save you a substantial amount and you still have the rest of the benefits of the policy including the cancellation cover. The Vehicle Hire Excess benefit included in the policy is $5,000 ( Go Plus ), $ 10,000 ( Go Elite ), or $ 15,000 ( Go Ultra ).
Additional Options
Go Insurance gives you the flexibility to add additional cover options depending on the type of trip you are planning. For example if you are going skiing or snowboarding in Australia you can add a snow sports option. For full details and exclusions, see the Product Disclosure Statement ( PDS ).
Below is a list of the additional cover options you can add to your policy ;
- Snow Sports Option
- Cruise Cover Option
- Golf Cover Option
- Water Sports Option
- Business Cover Option
For full details and exclusions related to the additional options listed above please see the Product Disclosure Statement ( PDS ). You will also be able to view a summary of these additional options as part of the quoting process.
You Can Also Exclude Certain Categories Of Cover
Go Insurance allows you to exclude certain categories of cover that you decide you may not need. This means that you will not be charged for cover that you do not require on your planned trip. For example if you are not hiring a car on your planned trip ( Go Elite and Go Plus policies only ) you can choose to remove the vehicle hire excess cover as part of the Legal Cover option.
The three cover options that you can choose to remove are ;
- Property Cover Option which includes Personal Property, Emergency Purchase and Personal Money
- Disruption Cover which includes Delayed Flights and Missed Connections, Hijack, Special Events, Insolvency Of Travel Provider and Domestic Pets
- Legal Cover which includes Legal Expenses, Vehicle Hire Excess and Return Of Hire Vehicle.
Please note that if you choose to exclude any of the three options above you will remove all the listed categories of cover included in that option.
Cover For Existing Medical Conditions
Even when travelling in Australia it is still an important consideration when purchasing travel insurance that you get cover for any existing medical condition/s you may have. For travel in Australia medical expenses are covered by Medicare so getting cover for your Existing Medical Conditions is for cancellation purposes only.
Pre Existing Medical Conditions fall into three categories :
- Conditions that are automatically covered.
- Conditions that must be declared ( either always or based on timing )
- Conditions that cannot be covered under any circumstances
If you have a Pre-Existing Medical Condition, you must follow these steps before purchasing your policy :
- Check the Automatically Covered Conditions list in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS). If your condition is listed and you meet all the eligibility criteria, you do not need to declare it.
- If you have a medical condition that is not automatically covered, you’ll need to declare it and complete a quick medical screening before purchasing. Go Insurance will review your details and let you know if cover can be offered. If they’re unable to provide cover for your condition, they’ll let you know so that you can explore other options.
Go Insurance will assess your medical screening and confirm whether they are able to offer cover. If confirmed there may be an additional premium to pay.
For further details please carefully read the Existing Medical Conditions section of the Product Disclosure Statement ( PDS ).
